An iconic product, with a natural nutrient formula, discovered through happenstance almost one hundred years ago at the century-old Yoshitaka Gold Leaf Foundry, where female workers chanced upon the miracle of soft and youthful hands after soaking them in natural ingredients used as part of the gold leaf-making process.

How to use

Take a small amount of cream with your fingertips. Warm it in the palm of your hand before distributing evenly.

About MAKANAI

Makanai is the result of the heavy price payed by the factory workers of the Yoshitaka Kinpaku Honpo gold-leaf foundry (Kanazawa city, prefecture), established in 1899.

The women were exposed to harsh working conditions such as intense heat, extreme dryness and minimal ventilation. They felt the need to protect their skin from dehydration. For this reason they seized the “makanai” ingredients ( the foundry or the kitchens where the gold-leaves were produced) to create their own skincare products and heal their skin.

There are recipes based on green tea, rice bran and gold powder. These artisanal formulas effectively protected the face and body of the workers and revealed to the world the savoir-faire and the natural beauty of Kanazawa women.

These beauty recipes, perfected and re-elaborated in the Yoshitaka Kinpaku Honpo Makanai, became the “Makanai recipes”, at the origin of the today’s cosmetic products, conceived to bring softness and brightness to women skin. The Makanai® beauty line is the result of more than a century of research.

Yoshitaka Kinpaku Honpo closed its doors in 2005, and moved in the Kagurazaka district in Tokyo, which remind in a way the Kanazawa atmosphere. Makanai® is continuosly studying to develop innovative natural products, with a more and more superior quality.
