KIHARA: cradle of Japanese porcelain production
Made in Kihara is a Japanese porcelain manufacturing company based in Arita, a well-known historic porcelain industrial area with a 400-year history. When you see Arita porcelain products, you realize how they differ from other porcelain, especially the white tone, the distinctive Prussian blue and the incredible creations.
Born in 2019 in Paris, Made by Kihara is the story of a friendship between Japanese porcelain maker Kihara and co-founder Timothée Kaplan. The French-Japanese brand collaborates with local Japanese potters and international artists to give the world of Arita porcelain a contemporary and global context.
Since its inception, Kihara has been committed to spreading the values of monozukuri, a word that stands for the spirit of Japanese manufacturing, literally meaning "making things". Skillfully integrating traditional Japanese craftsmanship with the creative gaze of young artists, Made by Kihara offers a unique collection of handcrafted ceramics deeply rooted in culture and place.
Taking inspiration from Arita, the cradle of Japanese porcelain production, each collection curated and produced by Made by Kihara is a celebration of Arita's artisan ecosystem: it is made with the intention of carrying forward traditional skills and culture to the next generation of artisans.
The Komon series, available in store and online, is a modern depiction of traditional Japanese patterns handed down from ancient times.
"KOMON" is a modern arrangement of traditional Japanese auspicious patterns, which will make hospitality dishes stand out. Each motif has its own meaning, derived from a long work of research and passion. From the cherry blossom with the meaning of eternal happiness and connection, to the sea, the source of life and for the Japanese people the waves represent all those good things that repeat one after the other.
For Made in Kihara, producing high quality porcelain is the company value. Additionally, exclusive decals, all made in Japan and fired in Paris, allow you to personalize a wide range of porcelain pieces with artist-designed artwork, creating truly unique pieces made just for each customer.
