The term "Bensan" is a contraction of "benjo-sandaru", which literally means "bathing sandals". They are typical indoor and outdoor slippers, widely used in Showa era inn or bar bathrooms, hospitals or schools. These common footwear silently focus on comfort, durability and antibacterial function.

Bench, a designer brand promoting products made in Nara Prefecture, Japan, has partnered with Nara-based Nishibe Chemical, a renowned manufacturer of high-quality toilet sandals with 40 years of history. Now made available in various styles and trendy color palettes, these retro swim footwear have been elevated to walk the runway.
