"THE VOID" is a collection of photographs by Naoki Ishikawa published in 2005.

The photographs depict the virgin forests of New Zealand's North Island: rich, dense forests that are sacred to the indigenous Maori people. A young Ishikawa walked alone through these forests for a month and a half, taking photos of what he saw as he walked. “My thoughts at that moment are no different from what I think now” comments Ishikawa, looking back at his work from 17 years ago. We took the opportunity to ask him to recall his experience in the Maori forests.
