The author of the volume is the great Japanese master Yoshindo Yoshihara, one of the most important living swordsmiths, who for his extraordinary skills was recognized with the title of mukansa ("exceptional swordsmith") and was elevated to the rank of " Important Living Cultural Treasure of Tokyo City and Prefecture”. It was also chosen for the scene in the film Kill Bill 2 which shows the traditional Japanese sword-making process.
